I always wanted to know

I always wanted to know,
what is behind the curtain.
the firefighter w/the shovel
didn’t know
the K-9 policeman
didn’t know too.
the bus driver knew,
– perhaps,
but didn’t tell,
& I think the homeless man, too.
the boy on the scooter,
smearing snots w/his sleeve
didn’t answer.
the girl w/the jumping rope
skipping third hour,
definitely knew,
but stung tongue out and laughed.
the rabbi,
the school teacher,
the monk,
they’re all tried to answer;
the dog & the cat too.
till I overheard,
two ghost girls,
chatting about,
what is behind the curtain.
I always wanted to know,
what is behind the curtain.
